Duke of Bragança joins fundraising dinner.
The Rotary Club of Estoi Palace International held a charity fund raising dinner at the Estoi Palace Pousada on Friday 20th November 2009.
The guest of honour was Dom Duarte Pio, Duke of Bragança who gave a very interesting talk on the ‘Modern History of Portugal’. The Duke, who is claimant to the throne of Portugal, spoke about the place of the monarchy and his family in recent Portuguese history as well as his personal background and also gave some personal comments on current European developments.
Also at the dinner were the recently elected Mayor of Faro Macário Correia and the President of the Estoi town council José Brito. The 160 guests enjoyed a first class meal which was followed by a prize draw.
The event was presided over by the Club President Agnete Sylvan who thanked the Duke and other guests for coming and commented on the impressive venue for the event. She introduced the club members who were present and also talked about the close relationship between the club and the Estoi Casa do Povo (Community Centre) for whose benefit the dinner was held.
The dinner raised close to €2,700 which will be used to purchase environmental equipment to improve the Casa do Povo’s auditorium.
The evening included music by the Vila Real S. Antonio Conservatory Orchestra conducted by Ricardo Carvalho.
